Annunciation Distorted

I spend a lot of time thinking and reading the impact that different religions have had on societies and people throughout history. Despite individual beliefs, it is undeniable that religion is one of the most impactful and influential social institutions.

I’ve been obsessed with paintings of The Annunciation for years and it took quite some time to decide what variation of the image I wanted to produce.

After painting the anamorphic skull in Ambassadors x Heavenly Bodies I began to think more deeply about distortion from both a visual and psychological perspective, which inspired my version of The Annunciation.

The thought behind the work is that religion can distort our world view and that you must find you own perspective which aligns with your values and what you believe.
