Art & Fashion @ Frieze London 2024
There are three things to see at Frieze:
Art
Fashion
Gallerists clickity clacking on their Macbooks
The Art
These are in order of appearance as I walked through the show with notes on favourites as I go…. but it turns out most of my top picks are toward the end, so keep scrolling!
These next three pieces are some of my favourites and I did not get the artists’ name! noo!
Jesse Mockrin with James Cohan Gallery below was my favorite of the whole show!
Figurative painting with classic + renaissance themes - hard to top it in my book. Themes on point and execution beyond belief!
and to round out the art section - a book (which I did not buy) but really liked the cover and title of and will likely one day purchase in the future.
The Fashion
First fashion sighting - embroidered shirt. would buy, would wear.
Second sighting - life’s ultimate accessory, a paperback book! I couldn’t tell what it was but based on the half of the cover art I could see.. would buy, would read!
Third sighting was really to grab a picture of the complementary colors of her outfit and the art behind. Loewe also sponsored the event so their name appeared on the back of the event map. It was everywhere and here almost acts like a fun little tag for sweater which is likely… not Loewe!
If you know me you know that I have an obsessions with “wind” material. Wind pants, wind skirts, shirts made of the swishy repellent material when I come across them…
Now this outfit was max wind suit, max pink. I liked the top and skirt best. Pink stockings and shoes tied it together. I wasn’t crazy about the jacket but it was fairly cold out today and can understand the coat pairing with the pink stitches and the heavy fabric creates a significant contrast. Would like to see the rest of her closet!
I personally love a good crewneck sweatshirt and it’s hard to see here but the image is of a Queen knighting someone but accidentally stabbing the sword through the hear. Her speech bubble reads “OOPS” and the caption below read “She’s A Killer Queen” — a nice little comedic nod to Queen’s song Killer Queen.
The Gallerists
I didn’t take any pictures but imagine a bunch of art gallery staff sitting at small tables at each booth emailing out their PDFs to potential buyers. Check out Jerry Gogosian on insta for her hot takes.
